Google is preparing a home speaker with Gemini

- 22 August, 07:18 PM

Along with the launch of Gemini on Nest devices, Google is also working on a brand new home speaker that will feature chatbot-based features. The company gave a sneak peek at the device during the Pixel 10 launch event, and Android Headlines has revealed some details.

The speaker will be available in four colors: red, green, black and porcelain. The device will also have a fabric finish and a plastic stand with a backlight that will be active when users approach Gemini.

As for functionality, the device will use Gemini Live, but with somewhat limited capabilities than smartphones, as it won't have a display or camera. However, users will still be able to play music, ask questions, and control smart home devices.

In addition, the Google speaker will be able to recognize unusual sounds, such as breaking glass or a smoke detector going off. When it detects a strange sound, the speaker will send a notification to the user's smartphone or other device.

Google will now borrow one feature from Apple's HomePod - the ability to pair the home speaker with the Google TV Streamer media player to provide cinematic surround sound throughout the home.

Other details about the new device are currently unavailable. Google has not officially talked about the new device, so when we can expect an announcement or even what the speaker will be called is still unknown. It is worth noting that Gemini will replace Google Assistant on Nest speakers in October 2025, so it is possible that the new device will be announced at the same time.

Recall that along with the Pixel 10 line, Google also introduced the foldable smartphone Pixel 10 Pro Fold, wireless headphones Pixel Buds 2a, and the new smartwatch Pixel Watch 4. The company also announced new features for Gemini Live, such as integration with other applications.
