Google is updating Chrome's password manager. The browser will be able to automatically change weak or compromised passwords. The company announced this at the Google I/O conference, The Verge reports.

Chrome already warns users about compromised or weak passwords. But in most cases, the next step is to manually change them. The new feature will automate this process: if the browser detects a vulnerable password, it will offer to change it, and on supported sites it will generate a strong version and make the changes automatically.

According to Parisa Tabriz, Google’s vice president and head of Chrome, the team aims to combine convenience with security: “If the password change process is too complicated, users will simply ignore it. Automatic change is a win for both security and user experience.”

Chrome will not change passwords without consent, keeping users at the center of the process, Tabriz noted. The feature is not yet live, but Google announced it to developers so they can prepare their services for the release, scheduled for late 2025.

Recall that this year at I/O, Google also introduced a new AI Ultra tariff plan for $250 per month, a real-time translation feature in Google Meet, a new AI tool for creating Stitch interfaces, and smart glasses in collaboration with Xreal.
