Google AI Mode gets an update with improved image recognition for search and shopping

- 1 October, 10:30 AM

Google has added new capabilities to its AI Mode for working with visual cues. Now the chatbot better understands queries that include images or videos and can generate more relevant results.

The company says the update is based on a query fan-out technique that runs multiple search scripts in the background, allowing it to better identify what a user is looking for, such as "moody maximalist bedroom" or "barrel jeans that aren't too baggy."

AI Mode works in a multimodal format, so you can start your search with a photo or video. Google believes that these capabilities are especially useful for online shopping, as users will now receive more visual and contextual answers with the ability to refine.

The update began rolling out today, but the company notes that it may take a few days before it becomes available to all users.
