Late last year, reports surfaced that Google was working on a Linux Terminal app that would allow it to run distributions on smartphones. As Android Authority reports, the app didn't take long to arrive - Linux Terminal arrived on Pixel with the March update.
To install the Linux Terminal app on your Pixel, you need to go into system settings, enable developer mode, and start the download, which will take up 567 MB.
The Linux environment uses one of the most popular distributions, Debian. However, unlike native terminal applications, Linux Terminal runs on a virtual machine via the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF).
The Pixel app currently lacks support for some features, including a graphical user interface (GUI). However, previous leaks suggest that this feature could arrive in Android 16.
