Chinese company BYD has officially unveiled the track version of the electric hypercar Yangwang U9 Xtreme, previously known as the U9 Track Edition. The electric car has already broken the record for the maximum speed among production cars, which was previously held by the Bugatti hypercar. Interesting Engineering reports this with reference to CarNewsChina.

The model was first introduced during a live online broadcast, after which interest in it was confirmed by officially recorded test results. In September 2025, at the Automotive Testing Papenburg test site in Germany, the car recorded a top speed of 496.22 km/h, which became a new world record among production cars.

The Chinese hypercar surpassed the previous record set by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which was 490.5 km/h. This record stood for 6 years.

In addition, the U9 Xtreme completed a lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes 59.157 seconds, surpassing the previous electric car record set by the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra (7:04.957).

The car is equipped with four BYD Yi Sifang electric motors (555 kW each), with a total output of 2,220 kW (about 3,000 hp). The platform operates at a voltage of 1,200 V, and the torque control system makes more than 100 adjustments per second, distributing power between the wheels for maximum stability.

The DiSus-X suspension with active control regulates vertical wheel oscillations in real time. Power is provided by a lithium iron phosphate "Blade Battery" with double-layer cooling and the ability to discharge up to 30°C. This allows for stable temperatures and power even during long high-speed races.

The U9 Xtreme model has received an extended aerodynamic package: an enlarged carbon fiber front splitter, a hood with a dual-channel air duct, a large rear wing of the "swan neck" type and a double-layer diffuser. The car uses 20-inch wheels with semi-slick GitiSport e·Gtr2 Pro tires, designed for speeds up to 500 km/h. The braking system includes titanium calipers and advanced carbon-ceramic discs.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is limited to 30 units for the global market. Driver Mark Basseng, who drove the car during the record-breaking run, noted its high stability, controllability and smooth power delivery, allowing the driver to fully concentrate on the track.
