NVIDIA CEO: People can only lose their jobs to AI if the world runs out of ideas

Despite growing fears of mass unemployment due to artificial intelligence, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang believes that layoffs will only become a reality "if the world runs out of ideas."

In an interview with CNN, the head of a company that supplies key graphics processors for AI development around the world said: "If the world runs out of ideas, then productivity gains translates to job loss."

"Everybody’s jobs will be affected. Some jobs will be lost. Many jobs will be created and what I hope is that the productivity gains that we see in all the industries will lift society," Huang added.

NVIDIA, under Huang's leadership, has become a key player in artificial intelligence and the most valuable company in history, with its GPUs used in virtually every major AI platform. That market also includes China, which has raised concerns among U.S. lawmakers.

According to Reuters, Huang recently received a formal warning from Senators Jim Banks (R-Ky.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Ky.), warning him against meeting with Chinese companies because of the risk of legitimizing businesses that work with the Chinese military or may discuss loopholes in U.S. export controls.

In response, Huang said that it is American technology that should "set global standards" and "America should win," emphasizing that even in a market as large as China, AI software should work best on American technology platforms.

Huang also noted that Chinese military structures do not rely on American technology because it can be limited at any time: "They simply cannot rely on it," he said, emphasizing that China is capable of creating powerful military systems without the participation of NVIDIA or other US companies.
