Google is adding support for image editing to its Gemini chatbot. This will allow editing of both AI-generated images and user-uploaded photos.
The update brings Gemini's editor, which supports changing backgrounds, adding or replacing objects, and generating new elements on request. For example, you can upload your own photo and ask Gemini to change your hair color.
Google says it's an "intuitive, multi-step process" based on positive feedback from users about the editing feature in AI Studio, which went viral during testing due to its ability to remove watermarks from images.
Google now promises that all images created or edited in Gemini will have an invisible SynthID watermark, and is also testing variants with visible labeling.
Traditionally for Google, the new feature is being rolled out gradually and will be available to all users in 45 languages over the coming weeks.
