Garmin is preparing deeper integration with Apple Health for its smartwatches

Garmin is planning to expand the integration of its Garmin Connect app with Apple Health. It is expected that within the next two months, smartwatches such as the Fenix 8 and Forerunner 570 will be able to not only send data to Apple Health, but also receive it from there, writes NotebookCheck citing The5krunner. This also means that data from other devices — such as the Apple Watch or third-party sleep trackers — will be able to be displayed in Garmin Connect and on the company's watches themselves.

Previously, Garmin users could only export a limited amount of data, such as steps, heart rate, or workout duration. Now, Garmin Connect can read sleep, activity, and health information from Apple Health and use it to calculate metrics like stress levels and Body Battery on their devices. This two-way syncing will help avoid gaps in stats when switching between devices from different brands.

At the same time, there are no plans to fully open the ecosystem - Garmin will limit what types of data can be transferred in both directions. For example, synchronization of advanced medical indicators, such as ECG data, is not currently planned.
