Modular laptop manufacturer Framework has unveiled its first PC
Modular laptop maker Framework is entering the PC market. The company held a Second Gen event where it unveiled a compact Mini-ITX PC powered by Ryzen AI Max.
"Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the culture associated with computers and computer games firsthand," Framework believes.
The Framework Desktop is a 4.5-liter Mini-ITX computer that uses AMD Ryzen AI Max Strix Halo mobile chips with Radeon 8060S graphics. Framework claims that this configuration allows for 1440p gaming and local AI.
The motherboard has ATX connectors, a PCIe x4 slot, 2 USB4 ports, 2 DisplayPort ports, 1 HDMI and 5Gb Ethernet. The PC also has a "semi-custom" 400W power supply in the Flex ATX form factor. Coolers from Noctua and Cooler Master were chosen for cooling , but they can be easily replaced. The board also has two PCIe NVMe M.2 2280 slots (up to 16 TB) and Wi-Fi 7 via the RZ717 Wi-Fi module.
The Framework Desktop front panel consists of 21 tiles in different colors. Users will be able to 3D print the tiles to create their own design.
The base model with Ryzen AI Max 385 and 32 GB of RAM starts at $1,099, and the top-end variant with Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and 128 GB of RAM starts at $1,999.
Framework only offers “DIY” versions, so you’ll need to buy your own storage and install an operating system. The motherboard starts at $799. Pre-orders are now open, with shipments scheduled for Q3 2025.
