Framework, known for its modular devices, has introduced the 12.2-inch 2-in-1 Framework Laptop 12 with a touchscreen and five colors.
"This computer is the purest manifestation of our vision and product philosophy at Framework, and is in many ways the product I started the company to create. We build products to fix what we see as a broken industry, and few categories are as emblematic of the problems with consumer electronics as entry-level laptops. They tend to be janky, locked-down, disposable, underpowered, and frankly, boring machines. Shamefully, these are the products that PC brands market for use by students and young people around the world. Instead, we believe these are the people who most need thoughtfully designed, long-lasting computers," said Framework founder Nirav Patel.
The Framework Laptop 12 gets the same durability and upgrades as the 13-inch model, but in a more compact and affordable form factor. For durability, the company has used a TPU shock-absorbing tensor unit on a hard PC/ABS plastic shell with a metal structure inside. The developers have also improved the maintainability of the 12-inch model, although more details are expected closer to release.
Despite its small form factor, the Framework Laptop 12 packs a punch. It's powered by 13th-generation Intel Core i3 or i5 processors, supports up to 48GB of DDR5-5200 RAM, up to 2TB of NVMe storage, and Wi-Fi 6E. All of these elements are modular.
The 1920 x 1200 display has a peak brightness of 400 nits and supports a stylus. Versions will be available for order, both without an operating system and with Windows 11 or Linux.
Pre-orders for the new laptop will start in April. The company promises to share additional details about the device by then. First deliveries are expected in mid-2025.
At the same time, the company also introduced its first full-fledged computer, the Framework Desktop. We talked about it in another article.
