Fortnite returns to iOS in the US — Epic offers Apple "peace"
Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will be back on the US App Store next week, for the first time since 2020. The decision comes after a court ruled that Apple was guilty of prohibiting developers from directing users to external payment methods without Apple's fees, The Verge reports.
The court ordered the company to completely remove restrictions on the placement of links, text, and alternative payment options. Apple is also prohibited from charging any fees for purchases outside the App Store.
Now that Epic is returning Fortnite to the US App Store, the company's CEO Tim Sweeney has offered Apple a "peace deal": if the company extends the new model without fees and restrictions to the entire world, Epic is ready to return Fortnite to all regional versions of the App Store and stop further lawsuits.
Fortnite is already available on iOS in the EU through the third-party Epic Store, but in the US the game is returning to the official App Store. Apple has not yet commented on the situation.
