Firefox will support progressive web apps

- 18 March, 03:22 PM

A hidden Progressive Web Apps (PWA) support flag – browser.taskbarTabs.enabledhas appeared in the Firefox Nightly build on the about:config page . OMG! Ubuntu reports this.

Right now, enabling this option will do nothing (on any platform). But the fact that the checkbox has been added should mean that support should be coming soon.

Firefox's web app integration won't be like similar features in other browsers. According to Firefox product manager David Rubino, the company aims to "offer features that provide a more app-like experience for websites," without giving the impression that users aren't working in Firefox.

"Web apps are still websites in a web browser, so the goal will be to fully maintain access to features that help you with the website itself, while de-emphasising features that are about managing multiple websites," Rubino explains.
