Aerospace company Firefly has shared a video of the Blue Ghost module landing on the lunar surface. The lander filmed the landing process, culminating in a cinematic finale.
The landing took place on Sunday at 3:34 a.m. Eastern Time (ET). Blue Ghost touched down in a region known as Mare Crisium. It is not the first commercial lander to reach the Moon, but it is the first to make a soft, trouble-free landing.
The mission was the result of a collaborative effort between Firefly and NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, which aims to help increase commercial presence on the Moon.
After landing, Blue Ghost began deploying its payload, sampling local regolith, and, of course, taking numerous photographs. The stationary lander will spend about two weeks on the lunar surface, performing a variety of tests.
