Parental control over children's devices: Google's Family Link introduces new tools
Google's Family Link app introduces new tools to help parents manage their children's devices. According to the company's blog, all features require a supervised Google account.
First, the company introduced a new Family Link interface. The design is more intuitive and easier to navigate. The new Screen Time tab brings all your screen time management tools together in one place.
"In addition to the app and device-specific usage summary and time limits, the Screen Time tab also makes it easier for parents to set and adjust Downtime and School time," the blog says.
On the Controls tab, parents can find simplified tools to manage their child's account, privacy settings, and content filters.
Key controls are now streamlined to give parents everything they need at their fingertips, including the ability to manage account information, approve app downloads, and block specific websites.
"Juggling multiple kids and their devices is also getting easier. Simply swipe between child profiles and manage devices from a single page, with more advanced settings just a tap away," the blog also says.
Google Ukraine reminded that the "Study Time" feature was recently introduced on Fitbit ACE LTE and Samsung Galaxy Watch for Kids. It is designed to reduce children's distractions from smartwatches during classes. Now support for the feature has become available for Android smartphones and tablets.
Study Time can help your child reduce distractions by limiting smartphone functionality and turning off notifications during school hours. Parents can easily adjust settings and set a timeout for vacations, weekends, lunch breaks, or recess.
"Parents can choose the apps that are silenced and restricted, and learn which apps their child uses while in School time or outside of it," the company noted.
Some apps can be useful for learning, so parents can choose a set of allowed apps and configure their availability in Study Time mode or other selected modes.
