In June 2025, electric vehicles accounted for 96.9% of the new car market in Norway. Of the 18,376 new registrations, 17,799 were electric cars, according to Mobility Portal Europe.

For comparison: in June 2024, the share of electric cars was 80%. This year, only 577 cars have non-electric engines: 152 plug-in hybrids (down 83.7% compared to 2024) and 223 other hybrids (down 89.1%), which reduced their share to 2% for the year. Diesel cars (142 units, 0.8%) and gasoline cars (57 units, 0.3%) also lost ground, with 2% and 1%, respectively.

The Tesla Model Y led the way with 5,004 registrations (27.2%), followed by the Toyota bZ4X (825) and Volkswagen ID.4 (714). The Tesla Model 3 (639) and BYD Sealion 7 (604) also made the top 5, while the VW ID.3 (573), Skoda Enyaq (461) and Volvo EX30 (433) rounded out the top 10.

The Tesla Model Y has maintained its lead since the beginning of 2025, with 11,006 units sold. It is followed by the Toyota bZ4X with 4,801 units sold and the VW ID.4 with 3,923.

In the first half of the year, only 75,515 new cars were sold in Norway, which is 23% more than last year. OFV notes that the growth was facilitated by favorable credit programs and a reduction in Norges Bank's discount rate. New brands and models are entering the market quickly, creating tough competition, said Eivind Solberg Thorsen, director of the Norwegian Road Administration (OFV).
