The American company Eight Sleep, known for developing products to improve sleep, has introduced the fifth generation of its Pod 5 smart system. As The Verge notes, the main innovations are a temperature-controlled blanket and built-in speakers for playing soothing sounds.

The Pod 5 comes with a temperature-controlled mattress cover and a height-adjustable base, which can also reduce snoring. The new blanket syncs with the cover and provides the same water-based cooling and heating temperature range — from 13 to 43°C. The system allows you to set the temperature separately for each side of the bed — both the base and the blanket.

Another upgrade to the system is the built-in surround speakers integrated into the new Pod 5 base. Eight Sleep created them in collaboration with neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, adding Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) meditation for deep relaxation and restoration. Users will also be able to choose white noise or other soothing sounds to automatically play after falling asleep.

Another improvement to the Pod 5 is its health monitoring feature. The company's app now includes a Health Check report that analyzes your heart rate and breathing during sleep, and AI algorithms detect and notify you of any possible abnormalities or problems.

Despite its benefits for sleep, the Pod 5 has a significant drawback - its exorbitant price. The basic version with a case and hub will cost $2,849. With a blanket - already $4,099, and the full set with the base and speakers - $6,099. In addition, the system requires an annual subscription of $199.
