A new law came into effect in the UK on Friday, July 25, forcing various online platforms to use mandatory age verification for residents of the country. The verification uses facial scanning, which, as it turns out, can be easily bypassed thanks to Death Stranding's photo mode, The Verge reports.
The lifehack using the game's photo mode works on Discord and Reddit, which use facial recognition services like k-ID and Persona, respectively. To do this, you need to get Death Stranding's protagonist, Sam Bridges, to look into the camera.
Sometimes services require you to perform certain actions, such as opening and closing your mouth or looking around, but all of these functions are fully accessible in Death Stranding's detailed photo mode. These checks take a matter of seconds to complete.
Meanwhile, BlueSky, which also requires facial verification to prove age, uses Yoti. Unlike k-ID and Persona, it was unable to trick Kojima Productions with a game. Yoti also notes that its technology is also used by Instagram for age verification.
