Kojima Productions and Line Mileage are working on a full-length animated film set in the Death Stranding universe. The film is written by Aaron Guzikowski, known for the TV series Raised by Wolves and Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners, Deadline reports.
The film will feature an original plot set after global catastrophes that have blurred the line between the living and the dead. The project is aimed at an adult audience and will develop the Death Stranding world separately from the previously announced live-action adaptation from Kojima Productions and A24.
Line Mileage notes that the game's aesthetic and theme are a perfect fit for the animated format. The studio was founded by producers who worked on projects such as Castlevania, Seis Manos, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
"Death Stranding is the most cinematic and emotional game I've ever played," commented Line Mileage's Chief Creative Officer Daniel Dominguez. "For me, it ranks right up there with Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell."
The film is still in development, with no release date announced. Meanwhile, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to release on June 26, 2025, with Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, Troy Baker, and others joining the cast.
