CD Projekt Red has announced that development on the next game in the Cyberpunk universe has officially moved beyond the concept stage. The project, which was working on the title Project Orion, is now officially Cyberpunk 2.
The existence of a sequel was first revealed in 2022, when the studio unveiled a roadmap outlining a new project in the Cyberpunk universe. Now, CD Projekt Red has announced that "Several weeks ago, the team completed the conceptual phase and the project has progressed to preproduction."
The game's release is still a long way off - given the criticism of the launch of the original Cyberpunk 2077, the studio will likely work on the sequel more cautiously.
CD Projekt Red also announced that the Phantom Liberty expansion has sold 10 million copies. It will be released in 2023 along with Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which includes the base game and all DLC. This version will also be released for Switch 2 and macOS in the near future.
By the way, another game from the studio – The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt – recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. On this occasion, we have prepared a material about the history of the game's development and its impact on the gaming industry.
