Perplexity's Comet AI browser will soon be available for Windows and Android users

Perplexity is expanding access to its Comet browser, which is powered by artificial intelligence. Earlier, in May, the company launched a beta version of Comet for Mac computers with Apple Silicon processors. Now, it has announced the release of this browser for other platforms. This is reported by Engadget.

The company's CEO Aravind Srinivas announced on the social network X that the Windows version of this browser is ready for testing, and the first invitations have already been sent to selected users. He also announced the imminent release of the Android version, noting that development is progressing faster than planned. In addition, an update is expected for iOS.

As mentioned above, Comet is a browser with built-in artificial intelligence features. In particular, the browser allows you to ask questions, check online shopping carts for discounts, and find unread emails. It also has a "clothes fitting" feature - the user can upload a photo of themselves and Comet will generate an image of them in the selected item of clothing.

The browser is currently only available on a waiting list, with no official launch date yet. However, the product has already sparked controversy due to questionable claims by its CEO about data collection.

In an interview, Srinivas said that Comet would collect data outside the browser "to improve user understanding." However, he later clarified that this was taken out of context, and that each user will be able to opt out of personalization in the context of targeted advertising.

By the way, Perplexity itself may be bought by the well-known company Apple. Information has appeared on the network that Apple is conducting internal discussions about the possible acquisition of the startup Perplexity. The Cupertino company wants to accelerate the development of Apple Intelligence and the voice assistant Siri, and the acquisition of Perplexity could help it in this.
