ChatGPT, a mobile app launched in May 2023, has generated $2 billion in global user spending, which is 53 times more than its closest competitor, Grok from Elon Musk's xAI company, according to research by analytics platform Appfigures, Android Headlines reports.

This year, ChatGPT’s revenue has already exceeded $1.35 billion, a 673% increase from the same period last year. In comparison, the combined spend of other popular AI apps, such as Claude, Copilot, and Grok, is 30 times less.

The average monthly revenue from ChatGPT mobile is currently around $193 million. In the US, the average revenue per download is $10, indicating high demand for premium AI features.

The total number of ChatGPT downloads exceeded 690 million, and their average monthly growth increased by 180% compared to last year. The largest number of downloads was recorded in India. In this regard, OpenAI launched a budget subscription ChatGPT Go in the Indian market, costing $ 4.6 per month.

The US leads the way in spending, at 38% of the total. Germany is second in spending, but at a significantly lower rate of 5.3%.

The figures only include spending in mobile app stores and do not include revenue from web subscriptions or API licensing, which can significantly increase the total.

ChatGPT's success in the mobile market has come under fire from Elon Musk, who said that Apple was artificially keeping xAI's Grok app in second place in the AppStore in the AI app category. This statement led OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to accuse Musk of hypocrisy.
