Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI employees, plans to introduce a new voice mode feature for its Claude AI chatbot.
According to Bloomberg, the feature could be available as early as this month, but for a small number of users. Anthropic is reportedly developing three English-speaking voices, which have been named Airy, Mellow, and Buttery.
The voice mode first appeared in the Anthropic iOS app, which was discovered by code researchers. The company's chief product officer, Mike Krieger, previously said that the voice feature is in development and that the company already has several prototypes.
Anthropic is actively developing its technology to compete with OpenAI, which created ChatGPT. The company recently launched a new $200 subscription tier for “experienced” users and announced an AI tool focused on research. Voice mode could be an important step in competing with OpenAI.
