Ukraine blocks Capterra service, which is used by many IT companies
Capterra, an online platform for searching, comparing, and evaluating software, such as CRM, HRMS, ERP, and more, has restricted access to Ukrainians. The platform's owner, Gartner, is explaining its decision by the war in Ukraine, DOU reports.
The CEO of one of the Ukrainian IT companies, which has been using Capterra services for 9 years, spoke about the blocking, as well as the company's comment. His team asked the platform's support service for an explanation, where they received a message about the blocking due to the war in Ukraine. The CEO also contacted the platform for an official position, but has not received a response yet.
"We understand your concerns, but due to the current geopolitical situation surrounding Ukraine, we have made the difficult decision to refrain from providing access to our platforms to businesses based in Ukraine at this time. This decision is part of our broader policy aimed at overcoming the complexities of current international responsibility for land space," the statement of support reads.
It is not yet known whether Capterra has restricted access for users from Russia, but the DOU publication was able to access the site via a Russian VPN.
Blocking access to Capterra creates serious difficulties for Ukrainian companies. Now it will be more difficult for them to make decisions, promote their products and learn. The platform is also used to confirm the quality and work of their solutions. According to the CEO, these restrictions cut off an entire segment of users, because Capterra was actively used in Ukraine.
"We also don't know how this will affect search results. Capterra results are indexed well in Google, and we don't understand whether this blocking will only affect access or also rankings. It is possible that we are no longer shown in internal search on the platform or our pages are indexed worse," the comment says.
What's even more worrying is that other similar platforms may follow Capterra's lead.
