Monster Hunter Wilds has sold over 8 million copies in just 3 days. Capcom announced that the game set a new record for the fastest sales in the company's history. For comparison, the previous installment in the series, Monster Hunter World, had over 300,000 players at the time of its release.
The game was released on February 28, 2025, and in less than 2 hours it already had almost a million active users on Steam alone. The game was able to overtake Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and even such giants as Dota 2 and Lost Ark. Capcom's project is second only to PUBG, Black Myth: Wukong, Palworld, and Counter-Strike 2.
Perhaps due to the game's success, Steam recorded over 40 million concurrent online users for the first time, with 12,812,379 players actually playing the game.
