Chinese automaker BYD has introduced a new compact electric car in Europe called the Dolphin Surf, which is an adapted version of the popular Seagull model that has already proven itself in the Chinese market. The novelty is available in 15 European countries.
Since there is already another model called Dolphin in China, the word Surf was added to the name for the European market to avoid confusion. Thus, the Dolphin Surf becomes the tenth electric car from BYD to be officially launched in Europe. The model is available in three trim levels.
The basic version costs €22,990 , has a 30 kWh battery, a range of up to 220 km (in the city - up to 310 km) and an 88 hp electric motor.
The more expensive option for €24,990 offers a 43.2 kWh battery with a range of up to 322 km (or 507 km in the urban cycle) and a more powerful 156 hp engine, allowing acceleration to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds.
Discounts will also be available in Europe until the end of June - prices will start at €19,990. In some countries, such as Spain, taking into account government subsidies, the model can be purchased for even €11,780.
BYD is actively expanding in Europe. The company intends to enter 12 new markets by the end of the year, bringing the number of outlets to over 1,000. BYD will also open a European headquarters and research center in Budapest.
By the way, in China, the Seagull is BYD's most successful model. It debuted in 2023 and quickly gained popularity: in the first four months of 2024 alone, almost 173,000 units were sold.
Recall that BYD began 2025 with rapid sales growth amid growing problems at its American competitor Tesla.
