Apple has decided to allow Chinese display manufacturer BOE to produce screens for the upcoming iPhone 17 series. PhoneArena reports this with reference to the informant @Jukanlosreve in X.

Previously, Apple limited cooperation with the Chinese company due to its non-compliance with technical standards. However, now it seems that the companies have still agreed to cooperate. However, it is reported that the cooperation will currently be limited to the Chinese market. For other countries, Apple will continue to use Samsung and LG panels.

The companies' cooperation only for the Chinese market may indicate that BOE is still unable to provide the quality required for global supplies, or simply does not have enough time to scale up production.

All iPhone 17 models are currently expected to feature 120Hz LTPO OLED displays, which Apple is marketing as ProMotion. In addition to Samsung and LG, BOE is now also expected to be involved in the production of these panels. The company previously produced panels for this year's iPhone 16e, which could have influenced Apple's decision to partner with them again.

Another reason for the cooperation could be Apple's desire to reduce production costs. In recent years, the company has sought to reduce the cost of purchasing components and reduce its dependence on expensive Korean display manufacturers. It is now observed that BOE is rapidly improving display technology and this could make it a potential new strategic partner for Apple.
