Bluesky will give users the ability to choose whether to use their data to train AI
X (formerly Twitter)’s decentralized competitor Bluesky has announced that user data will be used to train AI. However, users will be able to customize which data will be used, or completely prohibit the use of their data for training, Android Headlines reports.
This is a significant change in strategy. Last year, when many users left the social network X due to the use of their data to train AI, Bluesky assured that its users' data would be protected from such practices.
While the company hasn't actually broken its promise, it can't prevent third-party AI companies from using your content. The open-source nature of the decentralized platform means that all posts are available in a public feed for everyone.
CEO Jay Graeber said the company is developing a framework that will give users control over how their data is used to train AI. Users will be able to choose how much of their data is used, or opt out of it altogether.
By the way, the Bluesky app has just been updated to version 1.99. The most notable improvement is the ability to upload videos up to three minutes long. Previously, the app limited the maximum video length to 60 seconds.
