Blender with Apple Pencil support coming to iPad Pro, and then to other tablets

- 25 July, 04:08 PM

The Blender Foundation, the non-profit organization that develops Blender, has announced that its free 3D content creation program will be released on the iPad Pro and will receive support for the Apple Pencil stylus.

"Multi-touch interfaces like tablets have been common for years, but only recently thanks to increased processing power, have they started to serve as primary computing devices. To support Blender’s mission of making 3D technology accessible to everyone, it’s important to fully embrace these platforms," the developers said in a statement.

The app will initially be imported to the iPad Pro, but Apple tablets won't be the only ones to do so. In the future, the developers plan to release the app on Android devices and other graphics tablets.

The developers' ultimate goal is to provide tablet owners with a full Blender experience, but the initial focus will be on basic object manipulation and sculpting. After that, they will introduce Grease Pencil and storyboarding, which will require animation tools.

No full release date has been announced, but a technical demo of the app on the iPad Pro will be available at the Blender booth at SIGGRAPH 2025 in Vancouver, August 10-14. This will be followed by a workshop at Blender's headquarters in Amsterdam to learn more about the current design and workflow.
