Apple has encountered problems while releasing a new firmware update for its AirPods Max headphones, which was supposed to provide support for high-quality 24-bit/48 kHz audio and ultra-low audio latency.
The update, which has version number 7E99, was supposed to arrive alongside iOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4. However, Apple's support site now says the firmware will be available "soon."
The delay is believed to be due to a bug in the update file that causes iOS and macOS to look for the firmware at incorrect URLs. This may require an additional software update to resolve the issue.
Apple is expected to resolve the technical issues and release an update with fixes in the near future.
