Apple Watch to get more sensors and a new design in 2026

According to new reports, the 2026 Apple Watch model could get an expanded set of sensors and changes in appearance. This is reported by Apple Insider.

Apple is planning to double the number of sensors used in the Apple Watch. Meanwhile, the Cupertino company's upcoming smartwatch could also get improved power efficiency, potentially extending battery life.

The increased sensor count will include eight sensors arranged in a ring shape, visible through the glass cover on the bottom of the watch. This will likely result in the glass panel on the bottom becoming larger.

It is not known exactly which sensors will be used in the new models, but they will likely be limited to the flagship version, the Apple Watch Ultra 4.

As for the Apple Watch Ultra 3 model, which is due to debut by the end of 2025, it will receive a minor update — a slightly larger display, satellite emergency notifications, and possibly a hypertension detection function.

Recall that there have also been rumors recently that Apple may skip the release of a regular iPhone for the first time in 2026. The reason will be the appearance of a new folding smartphone, which will debut in the fall along with the premium iPhone 18 Air, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max.
