Apple mocks Windows crashes associated with the "blue screen of death" in new ad

Apple has published a new commercial on its YouTube channel, depicting a situation with a mass failure of Windows computers due to a BSOD or "blue screen of death" error.

The video follows a fictional company whose employees are preparing for a product launch, but their work is halted by a sudden system failure in the form of a BSOD. They are rescued by "Apple employees" who hand out Mac minis to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

The video alludes to a real-life incident from July 2024, when a CrowdStrike security update caused thousands of Windows computers to crash, while Apple computers were unaffected. The video's final scene features the caption "There's no better security than Mac security," emphasizing Apple's stance on the increased security of macOS.

According to WccfTech, the more reliable level of security on macOS is explained by the fact that Apple has restricted access to low-level macOS components, which reduces the risk of crashes, such as BSOD. While Windows users may face a long search for the causes of errors, in particular due to driver conflicts or incorrect software, in macOS the occurrence of such problems is minimized.

After the CrowdStrike incident, it became known that Microsoft plans to block access to the Windows kernel to third-party security vendors to prevent such failures. Later, the company announced that it is preparing new solutions for Windows 11 that will allow security vendors to work outside the kernel of the system. How much more reliable Microsoft's new security measures will be and whether they will be on par with Apple's solutions - time will tell.

By the way, this summer Microsoft announced that it was abandoning the "blue screen of death" image in Windows. In its blog, the company announced the launch of a new, black version of the screen, stating that it aims to "optimize the experience of unexpected restarts."
