According to the latest information, Apple plans to introduce a new iPhone 17 Air this fall, along with the main iPhone 17 smartphones, which will be one of the thinnest smartphones in history. Its thickness, according to rumors, will be only 5.5 mm, which forced the company to make significant compromises, including reducing the size of the battery.
To compensate for this shortcoming, Apple plans to release a special case with a built-in battery that will charge the smartphone via USB-C or MagSafe. NotebookCheck writes this with reference to The Information.
The company expects that only 60-70% of users will be able to use the iPhone 17 Air for a day without recharging, while for standard models this figure reaches 80-90%. Because of this, Apple plans to additionally release a battery case, which should improve the autonomy of the new Air smartphone.
However, an optional battery case could make the device the same thickness as the iPhone 17 Pro, which calls into question the benefits of the ultra-thin design.
According to the latest reports, the iPhone 17 Air will have only a single rear camera and the Apple A19 processor. This model is expected to replace the iPhone 16 Plus in the company's lineup.
