Apple plans to let EU users change default voice assistant — Bloomberg

- 19 May, 09:00 AM

Apple plans to allow users in the EU to change their default voice assistant, Bloomberg reports, meaning they will be able to choose alternatives like Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa instead of Siri.

As journalists Mark Gurman and Drake Bennett note, the changes will affect several software platforms — most likely, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

This move is Apple's response to new regulatory requirements from the European Union, which are forcing the company to open its ecosystems to third-party solutions.

Apple has previously allowed European users to install third-party apps as default for the browser, navigation, messaging, and other functions.
