Apple has been sued in federal court over what the plaintiffs say are false advertising for certain Apple Intelligence features, TechCrunch reports.

A class action lawsuit seeking damages has been filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose on behalf of people who purchased iPhones and other devices that were enabled by Apple Intelligence. The plaintiffs allege that device owners did not receive the features that Apple Intelligence promised.

“Apple’s advertising [cultivated] clear and reasonable consumer expectations that these transformative features would be available upon the release of the iPhone,” the complaint states. “Contrary to Defendant [Apple’s] claims about the advanced capabilities of artificial intelligence, the products offered a significantly limited or completely absent version of Apple Intelligence, misleading consumers as to its actual usefulness and performance.”

In recent tests, Siri users have noted that the Apple Intelligence-powered assistant can't correctly answer even simple questions like "who won the Super Bowl?" Apple also announced this month that it is delaying the launch of a more "personalized" Siri until next year.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has reportedly "lost confidence" in AI chief John Giannandrea over product development. He has also appointed Mike Rockwell, currently vice president of the Vision Products Group (the team behind the Vision Pro), as the new head of the Siri team.
