Apple says scratches seen on new iPhone 17 Pro aren't actually scratches

- 25 September, 02:00 AM

After the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro, reports of scratches and signs of wear on the body of the new smartphones appeared online. In particular, some buyers and journalists on the day of the launch noticed damage to demonstration samples in Apple stores and partners. Most of the marks were noticed on the back panel, mainly around the cutout for MagSafe.

However, Apple representatives explained to 9to5mac that these are not scratches, but traces of material transfer from damaged MagSafe stands used in certain retail outlets.

Apple says these marks can be removed by cleaning the device. The company said it is already working on replacing worn-out stands, as similar issues have been observed with previous models, including the iPhone 16.

A video review by blogger JerryRigEverything drew particular attention, where it was noted that the protruding edges of the iPhone 17 Pro's camera module are more susceptible to scratches. The author explained this by the lack of a chamfer or rounding on the edges of the protrusions.

Apple responded by stressing that the edges of the camera module have the same characteristics as the anodized aluminum surfaces of other Apple devices, including the MacBook. The manufacturer acknowledges that minor signs of wear may occur over time, but emphasizes that all its devices undergo rigorous durability tests.

Despite such moments, analysts note that the demand for the new iPhone 17 is quite high. It is noted that due to a good start to sales, Apple shares increased by 4%, due to which their annual dynamics exceeded 2%.

Recall that global sales of the iPhone 17 series began on September 19, and in Ukraine these smartphones, along with other new products from Apple, will be available for purchase from September 26.
