Apple plans to supply all iPhones for the US from India by 2026 - FT

Apple plans to move all of its iPhone production in the US to India by the end of 2026, the Financial Times reported. This is part of the company's strategy to diversify its supply chain and reduce its dependence on China. To do this, Apple will have to increase its manufacturing capacity in India, doubling its existing capacity.

Currently, most iPhones are assembled in China through partners like Foxconn. The US market is important to Apple, accounting for 28% of total iPhone shipments, which will total 232.1 million units in 2024.

The changes come amid trade tensions between the US and China. The Trump administration has imposed tariffs on Chinese imports, which have wiped $700 billion off Apple's market value. Accordingly, Apple has started shipping iPhones made in India to the US to avoid the increased tariffs.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has been working hard to protect the company from tariffs. He has secured temporary exemptions for some Apple products. But that could change.

Apple is therefore continuing to develop manufacturing facilities in India with partners such as Tata Electronics and Foxconn. The company also plans to invest $500 billion in the United States, but has not yet announced plans to move production to America.

By the way, decisions regarding changes in the supply chain and customs tariffs will be key to the company's future results, and investors are awaiting additional information.
