According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing "major changes" for the iPhone's 20th anniversary in 2027. The company plans to release a foldable iPhone along with a "bold" new iPhone Pro model that will use more glass.
For the 10th anniversary of the smartphone, Apple released the iPhone X, which for the first time did not have a Home button, and instead of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, the Face ID authentication system appeared.
If the company sticks to its annual release and branding strategy, the 20th anniversary iPhone will be number 19. However, Apple has previously changed its names to mark important milestones, such as the transition from iPhone 8 to iPhone X in honor of the 10th anniversary of its release. Therefore, it is possible that the company will decide to change its approach again and introduce the iPhone 20, or resort to a different generation numbering system.
Unfortunately, there are no other details about the upcoming anniversary iPhone yet.
As for the foldable device, Gurman previously stated that the first foldable iPhone would be released in 2026, so it's likely that the 2027 "folding version" will be the second iteration of this model.
As a reminder, Gurman also said in a new report that the iPhone 17 lineup will not receive radical design changes.
