Apple and Elon Musk are at odds over plans to expand satellite services. Apple is investing heavily in satellite communications, which allow users to stay connected in places where traditional networks don't work. In turn, Musk's SpaceX has launched more than 550 satellites to provide mobile communications through its Starlink network. Both companies are competing for limited frequency spectrum to transmit their signals, the WSJ reports.

Musk has been vocal about Apple's investment in space technology, while SpaceX has been trying to stall Apple's satellite network expansion. The conflict escalated after SpaceX and T-Mobile offered Apple a partnership to bring Starlink to the iPhone. After intense negotiations, they reached an agreement that will allow SpaceX and T-Mobile's satellite services to work on the iPhone.

Apple has invested more than $1 billion in satellite operator Globalstar, which provides satellite communications for iPhone. This feature allows users to send emergency messages and call for help in areas where there is no cellular coverage. Apple is also working with other satellite service providers, such as EchoStar, to provide more spectrum access and connectivity support for iPhone.

The conflict between Apple and SpaceX stems from the companies' differing strategies for developing satellite services. Apple wants to provide coverage through a partnership with Globalstar, while SpaceX, with its larger satellite fleet, is trying to push its Starlink network.
