Apple gave Trump a statuette made of glass and 24-karat gold
At a press conference at the White House, Apple CEO Tim Cook presented the US President with a statuette made of glass and 24-karat gold, made in the United States, The Verge reports.
The glass figurine is made in the shape of a circle with the Apple logo carved in the middle, Donald Trump's name written on it, and Tim Cook's signature. The glass itself was taken from an iPhone.
It also says "Made in the USA" because the gift came as Apple announced a $100 billion investment in manufacturing in the U.S. As part of that investment, Apple also partnered with Samsung to manufacture chips.
Tim Cook's relationship with Donald Trump has been somewhat fraught. While the Apple CEO was initially able to help his company temporarily avoid Trump's tariffs, there have been reports that Cook's influence is waning amid the trade war. However, the US president's desire to bring manufacturing to the country and Apple's investment could ease tensions.
