Apple has shipped three billion iPhones

- 1 August, 09:10 AM

Apple has officially shipped its three billionth iPhone, CEO Tim Cook announced during the company's third-quarter 2025 financial results, Engadget reports.

The first iPhone was released in 2007, the billionth unit was sold in 2016, and the two billionth unit is expected to be sold in 2021. In less than four years, the company has reached a new historical milestone. iPhone sales grew by double-digit percentages, and quarterly revenue amounted to $94 billion, up 10% from last year.

At the same time, Cook noted that tariffs on imports from China cost the company $800 million per quarter, and next quarter, costs could rise to $1.1 billion. Analysts, including Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, believe that part of the demand was created by buyers who feared that the price of smartphones would rise due to tariffs.

Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 17 lineup in September, including the new iPhone 17 Air, an ultra-thin smartphone that will compete with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. Analysts also predict that Apple will raise prices for the entire new lineup.

Cook also reported that the company is significantly increasing its investment in artificial intelligence and is considering possible acquisitions to accelerate the development of its AI solutions. Earlier, it was reported that Apple may buy startup Perplexity AI.
