Apple blocks iTorrent from alternative app store in EU
Apple has always blocked torrent clients from its iOS app store, but this restriction has not extended to alternative platforms, at least not before. As Torrent Freak reports, the Cupertino company has blocked iTorrent from the AltStore PAL.
It is worth noting right away that the developer of iTorrent is Russian Danil Vinogradov, but the situation itself is quite interesting, because Apple completely revoked his right to "alternative distribution", which is necessary for publishing programs in alternative stores, including AltStore PAL. The company did not provide any explanations.
Although alternative stores in the European Union operate independently, Apple still has some control over them. The company used this to block iTorrent downloads from AltStore PAL in July.
The developers of the alternative store are in no way responsible for the blocking, but have also reached out to Apple for an explanation. AltStore PAL co-founder Shane Gill noted that he has also not received any response so far.
"I can confirm that we are in communication with Apple about this issue. We’ve told them what’s going wrong, and they said they’re looking into it, but we haven’t gotten any further information as of yet," says Gill.
Gill also revealed that Apple never provided AltStore with any caveats or rules regarding certain categories of apps.
