Apple has acknowledged an unusual glitch in the iPhone's dictation feature that temporarily replaces the word "racist" with "Trump" when you type, MacRumors reports.
The issue gained prominence after a video demonstrating the glitch went viral on TikTok and other social media. In the video, a user says the word "racist" and the device initially displays "Trump" before automatically correcting to the correct word.
An Apple spokesperson explained that the problem is caused by a "phonetic overlap" between the words, and the company is actively working to fix it. According to The Wall Street Journal, other words containing the "r" consonant, such as "rampant" and "rampage," were also temporarily replaced with "Trump" during dictation.
However, John Berkey, a former member of Apple's Siri team, expressed doubts about this explanation, suggesting that it could be an inside joke or a deliberate act by an employee. He noted that the problem likely began after an update to Apple's servers, and it is unlikely that the data collected for the AI was the cause of the outage.
Berkey emphasized that autocorrecting a word may indicate that the problem is not purely technical, but perhaps related to certain software code in Apple's systems.
