Counterpoint Research has released its quarterly report on the mobile OS market. Globally, Android remains the leader, iOS is in second place, and HarmonyOS is in third. However, in China, the situation is different - HarmonyOS has overtaken iOS and is expected to continue growing in 2025.
Global smartphone sales remained stable in 2024, explaining the nearly identical quarterly and annual figures. At the same time, Android reached record low market share in the fourth quarter of 2024 in the US and India.
In the US, strong results from Motorola and Google offset double-digit sales declines from smaller manufacturers, while the iPhone lost just 1%. In India, by contrast, iPhone sales reached record levels, and most of the devices sold were previous-generation models.
HarmonyOS maintains a stable 4% global market share, but in China it outperformed iOS throughout 2024. Counterpoint attributes the growth to support from the Chinese government, which subsidizes the sale of local smartphones, stimulating domestic production.
The analysts did not specify whether EMUI, the global version of Huawei's interface, is included. However, this is a minor factor, since the company's main smartphone sales are focused on the Chinese market.
