The Gemini app on Android now supports the Song Search function — now AI can identify music at the user's request, reports 9to5Google.

Previously, when asked to identify what song was playing, Gemini only advised installing a separate app for recognizing tracks. Now, the chatbot opens Google Search and launches the song search function — the results are displayed in the Google app.

Previously, this feature was provided by Google Assistant, but after switching to Gemini, accessing song search became more difficult, and users had to add a shortcut to the home screen or enable it through settings.

While the new implementation isn't fully native (results aren't displayed directly in the Gemini interface), it does bring back an important feature that many users lost after switching from Google Assistant.

By the way, this innovation has been available to Android users in recent weeks. This feature does not yet work on iOS.

Recall that Gemini is gradually replacing Google Assistant on Android devices, and this transition should be completed by the end of 2025. Google is positioning Gemini as a more versatile AI-based tool capable of answering more complex queries, interacting with content on the screen, and performing advanced functions.
