Google will speed up app installation in Android 16 on weak devices
Android 16 will feature a new cloud compilation feature, which will significantly speed up the installation of applications on smartphones, especially budget ones, Android Authority reports.
Typically, when you install an app, Android uses the dex2oat tool to convert APK files into the system-required artifacts to run the app. This process can be time-consuming, especially on devices with weak processors or slow storage. The new solution allows the Google Play Store to download ready-made artifacts from the cloud instead of creating them on your smartphone. This helps save time and device resources.
However, this feature is not yet available to the general public, as Google has yet to set up the infrastructure to make it work. It is possible that Google will make this process optional at first, especially since it increases the amount of data users have to download.
However, Google is taking a step forward in ensuring better Android performance for everyone, regardless of device power. Cloud compilation is expected to become an important technology for faster app launch.
