Google is working on a new feature for Android 16 that will organize user notifications using artificial intelligence. This update was first reported back in December 2024, but now more details have emerged, writes Android Authority.
Similar to Gmail, the new feature will analyze notifications using AI and group them into different categories: Promotions, News, Social, and Suggested. It is also noted that Google warns about possible AI errors during organization.
The framework for the new feature is part of the open-source version of Android 16. This could potentially mean that notification organization will be available to owners of a variety of smartphones, not just Pixels. However, the core AI services responsible for grouping notifications are part of Notification Assistant, which is contained in the Android System Intelligence app, and are not part of the open-source version.
Notification organization will likely be exclusive to Pixel at launch, but could eventually make its way to other manufacturers' devices. More specifically, the feature is expected to debut with the Pixel 10, which is expected to launch in August 2025.
