Half of Americans perceive AI as a threat to everyday life.

According to a Pew Research study, more than half of Americans also believe that technology will undermine creative thinking and worsen relationships.

According to the research center, US residents increasingly perceive artificial intelligence as a threat to everyday life and basic human qualities — half of respondents said that the spread of artificial intelligence worries them, and only 10% feel encouraged.

The study, which was conducted among 5,023 adults in June 2025, also revealed a certain paradox. It turned out that 73% of respondents are ready to let artificial intelligence help with household tasks, but 61% want more control over its implementation. At the same time, 57% of respondents admitted that they feel they lack real influence over how technology penetrates their lives.

It is noted that the main fear of Americans is related to the loss of key skills — more than 53% of those surveyed believe that AI will impair creative thinking, and half are convinced that it will negatively affect interpersonal relationships.

The study authors also note that younger people are more informed about AI, but also more pessimistic. About 61% of Americans under 30 believe that technology will stifle creativity, compared to 42% among people over 65.

Americans are still willing to entrust certain functions to artificial intelligence — for example, weather forecasting or the fight against financial crimes — but the majority categorically reject its role in the personal sphere. Normative expectations reflect a certain anxiety in society. According to Gallup-SCSP, 80% of Americans support increased government oversight of the industry.

Recall, according to a survey of six thousand people by Rakuten Viber, almost 60% of Ukrainians use AI, but only 25% do it regularly.
