As reported by Variety, Amazon is working on a prequel series to the cult film Pacific Rim, which tells the story of giant robots battling kaiju monsters.
The show is written and developed by Eric Heisserer, known for his work on the film Arrival. The project is backed by Legendary, which produced the original film.
The series will most likely be a prequel to the events depicted in the original film directed by Guillermo del Toro, which was released in 2013.
In 2018, a second sequel film, Pacific Rim: Uprising, was released, and in 2021, Netflix released the anime series Pacific Rim: Black. The new series promises to expand on the franchise's history.
There is no official release date for the series, nor are there any script details yet. Amazon has yet to comment on the information related to this project.
