Amazon has released Alexa+, but with limited features and availability

- 1 April, 05:49 PM

Amazon has released an updated Alexa+ artificial intelligence assistant, but only a limited number of users can access it, and some of the announced features are still missing, The Washington Post reports.

Some of the features that Amazon showed off during its February keynote will be delayed by two months, while others will be released even later, the publication learned after reviewing internal company documents. According to the materials, the delayed features do not meet Amazon's standards for a public launch.

Among the features that will not be available to users for now are ordering food based on a previous conversation with the assistant, visual identification of family members and reminders for certain tasks. There are also no functions for brainstorming ideas for gifts or creating stories to entertain children.

Another announcement during the Alexa+ presentation was the ability to communicate with the assistant in a browser via the Alexa.com website. This feature was called Metis internally, but it has not yet been launched.

There are also issues with features that have already been released. In particular, the assistant can read and summarize any documents that a user sends it, but it is not yet possible to delete them. Instead, users will see that "deleting attachments is not yet supported."

The official website of the assistant states that Alexa+ is currently in early access mode, so only some users can use the AI assistant. At the same time, the company's documentation indicates that Alexa+ is already available on new models, including the Echo Show, while owners of older devices, such as the Fire TV or Echo Spot, will have to wait.
