Following iOS 18.4, Apple has also released a new software version for AirPods Max with USB-C connector. The firmware has the number 7E99.

When connected to a device running iOS 18.4, the updated AirPods Max (USB-C) firmware adds support for Lossless Audio and Low-Latency Audio. That means AirPods Max (USB-C) now support 24-bit/ 48kHz Lossless Audio, so you can listen to music in studio quality — the way the artist intended.

According to Apple, Lossless Audio, along with Personalized Spatial Audio , provides more accurate and deeper sound.

With support for Lossless Audio and Low-Latency Audio, musicians can use AirPods Max (USB-C) to create and mix Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking by simply connecting the headphones via USB-C to a Mac running Logic Pro or other music software.

To update your AirPods Max, make sure your AirPods are within Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac connected to Wi-Fi. Plug your device into a charger. The firmware will then automatically download to your AirPods. The update can take up to 30 minutes.
